A man has been named and charged after a teenager was stabbed in a UK town, police said. Lancashire Constabulary provided the update on Sunday, two days after officers were called to Wood Street in Brierfield to attend an incident.
The officers were called to the street at 3.06pm on June 12 and found that a 17-year-old girl had been stabbed in the neck, Lancashire police said in a statement. The teen, who was taken to hospital for treatment, didn't suffer life-threatening injuries, the force added.
A statement released on Sunday read: "She was taken to hospital for treatment. Thankfully her injuries were not life-threatening and she has since been discharged from hospital and is recovering at home."
A man, 30, was arrested shortly after the incident was reported on suspicion of attempted murder, police said.
On Sunday, police said a man had been charged.
Lancashire Constabulary's statement today also read: "Following consultation with the Crown Prosecution Service, Junaid Nawaz, 30, of Livingstone Walk, Brierfield – who is British born of Pakistani heritage – has been charged with attempted murder and possession of a knife in a public place.
"He has been remanded in custody to appear before Blackburn Magistrates Court tomorrow morning (15th June)."
A spokesperson for the force had previously said that there will be extra patrols in the area and an appeal has been made for anyone with information or footage to get in touch.
