Richard Herring has revealed he’s been diagnosed with incurable leukaemia five years after beating testicular cancer. The former BBC and Taskmaster star opened up about the "bad news" he received in a shock announcement. The 58 year old shared the news in an essay posted to his Substack account, saying his diagnosis is "incurable".

"Let me give you the bad news first. I have cancer again. Not ball cancer this time, I can’t afford to lose another one of those (though I will be doing my show 'The Male Eunuch' if it does happen)," he began.

"This time I have blood cancer. And God is determined to make sure I get the funniest cancers possible and this one is called hairy cell leukaemia. The other bad news is that it is incurable."

While Richard explained the cancer diagnosis is "incurable" it is treatable.

The comic continued: "The good news is that it’s entirely treatable and will not kill me (the treatment has a tiny chance of killing me, but so has loading the dishwasher, so don’t worry about it).

The comic is best known for his stand-up work and Richard first worked for the BBC in the early 1990s, primarily as part of the comedy duo Lee and Herring. Their BBC career highlights include writing and performing on Lionel Nimrod's Inexplicable World (Radio 4, 1992–1995), Fist of Fun (Radio 1 in 1993, and BBC Two from 1995–1996), and This Morning with Richard Not Judy (BBC Two, 1998–1999).
