With the news delighting royal fans online, the Daily Express launched a poll asking readers whether the couple are right to send their son to the elite private school.
A total of 4,663 votes were cast by Daily Express readers, with an eye-watering 3,567 expressing the view that the Prince and Princess of Wales are right to send their son to Eton College.
A further 707 voters disagreed with the couple's decision. Meanwhile, 389 voters said they did not know whether the couple were correct.
Taking to the comments, one person wrote: "Yes, it's their son and his school is important to him and them. I'm pretty certain every one of us would choose the school we wanted for our children, paid or otherwise. They have chosen for their son. Well done to William and Catherine!"
A second wrote: "George is clearly an intelligent boy. On top of that, he has a very loving family behind him and has been brought up to be confident. He will be happy at Eton, and I feel he will not only 'do well' there, but he will also EXCEL there because he has the confidence and the intelligence to do just that."
Prince George’s first day at Eton later this year is expected to be documented in the traditional way, with a photograph of the then-13-year-old signing the school’s Entrance Book with his parents by his side.
Fees are currently set at an eye-watering £21,099.60 per term, totalling £63,298.80 for the year.
While King Charles had followed his father and attended Gordonstoun School in Scotland, Prince William's education was more influenced by his mother's family. Diana, Princess of Wales' father, John Spencer, Earl Spencer and her brother, Charles, Earl Spencer, both studied there.
